Breast Cancer has been one of the most dangerous cancers commonly found to be in women. It refers to the abnormal growth or multiplication of the cells in breast, usually found to form a lump which can be seen or discovered on an X-Ray. This lump or abnormality can also metastasize to other parts of the body, thus proving cancer to be malignant. It is, therefore, crucial that breast cancer detection takes place as soon as possible.

There are many myths going around about breast cancer causes and symptoms, which usually means that people who are suffering from it cannot search the correct signs or symptoms to look for that their bodies may be going through at the very moment. Such myths more often than not, mislead people and causes confusion about breast cancer and its relative causes, signs, and symptoms as a whole.

Following are some myths which are generalized to be linked to breast cancer despite the fact that there hasn’t been any evidence to show their common link.

  1. BREAST CANCER IS FOUND TO BE IN WOMEN ONLY

It is the most rumored myth which can be commonly heard when talking about breast cancer. Breast cancer can not only be acquired by women but men as well since they possess breast tissues and are equally prone to suffer from the said disease. The Carol Milgard Breast Center diagnoses approximately five men with breast cancer each year.

If you are a man and find your body going through any unidentifiable changes, then you should consult your doctor at the earliest and arrange for a mammography or X-Ray session.

  1. LUMPS ARE THE ONLY VISIBLE SIGN OF BREAST CANCER

People often recognize lumps formed on the breast or breast cancer lump in armpit as the only signs of this malignant tumor which is not true. Research has shown that along with the formation of lumps, an individual may also experience irritated breast skin, pain in the chest area, pus discharged from nipples, peeling of the skin on the infected breast and more. If any of these signs are discovered, you should immediately fix an appointment with your doctor and discuss your symptoms. A breast cancer mastectomy should be immediately arranged to get the results as soon as possible.

  1. YOUNG WOMEN CANNOT GET BREAST CANCER

Breast cancer in teens is possible from a scientific point of view. Teenagers or youngsters who acquire breast cancer at an early age are more likely to be in danger as compared to older women because young girls rarely get this cancer which is why they are not susceptible to any changes that they may experience in their breasts or throughout their bodies. Anyone can be suffering from breast cancer regardless of the fact that it is in the family genes or whatnot.

Young girls who tend to take contraceptive pills or birth control on a regular basis are said to be susceptible to suffer from this type of cancer.

“It’s rare that we see invasive breast cancer… in someone so young,” said Dr. Ronda Henry-Tillman, a breast oncologist of the Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. “It makes it clear for us that we can’t exclude it in younger patients.”

  1. BRAS CAN CAUSE BREAST CANCER

Bras are said to be associated with the onslaught of breast cancer which is again, another myth found to be circulating in the people, gaining popularity solely because of the media. Research has clearly proven it to be false, dismissing the idea of breast cancer being acquired by wearing tight-fitted bras.

A 2014 scientific study looked at the link between wearing a bra and breast cancer. There was no real difference in risk between women who wore a bra and women who didn’t wear a bra.

  1. BREAST CANCER IS ONLY HEREDITARY

Breast cancer is frequently rumored to be only hereditary and women who have no such family history are generally told not to worry about the incurable disease. This is not true and research has clearly proven otherwise that women with absolutely no such family background are often found to be suffering from this type of cancer. This can be avoided by frequent mammograms which can help an individual discover the disease and deal with it accordingly.

  1. BREAST CANCER CAN BE CAUSED BY AN INJURY OR A BRUISE

It is not factual to say that breast cancer can be caused due to an injury or a bruise suffered by the breast. Studies have provided no such evidence that a man or woman may acquire this cancer just because of a minor injury or knocking around that may have been caused during sports.

  1. ABORTION

Whether the abortion is said to be planned or unplanned in the form of miscarriage, it does, in no way, relate to breast cancer. Any woman who may have undergone a failed pregnancy is definitely not at a greater risk of acquiring breast cancer.

  1. SILICONE BREAST IMPLANTS CAN CAUSE BREAST CANCER

People have often heard the misconceptions about the breast implantations; whether they are silicone, PIP or saline, and that they tend to put the said individual at a great risk of getting breast cancer. This has been proven wrong by the research which clearly states that all women, breast implants or not, are at an equal risk of getting this type of cancer. If an individual is experiencing any unexplainable changes in the body, then they should be immediately discussed with a doctor.

Breast cancer is found to be one of the riskiest types of cancers and if not discovered at its earliest, it may put the suffering patient at the brisk of death. So try and keep your eyes open to any kind of the symptoms or signs that may present themselves as the start of this cancer and arrange for the best breast cancer care if one is found to be suffering from it.
